Here's for the wait

The last few weeks have been a little busy with two big moves.  The first being moving my folks out of the Child hood home.  The second move is moving Bloggin B from blogger to the new website.  Both are nearing completion.  Posting will remain a little sporadic this week and if all goes well over the upcoming long weekend the new site shoud be live come monday.  Have a great week!

Down to the grind

Ah the weekend is about here.   Im playing catch up right now with all the crazy projects I have committed myself to.   This weekend won't be too productive on the blog front as I will be tied up with my parents move.  Hopefully they will settle into their new quiet quaint home with relative ease next week.

I will be posting the remainder of my summer adventure pictures next week.  Along with a few teasers from the upcoming Converse series I am working on.

Lastly the website.... it is well underway and if all goes well it should be ready for Labour Day giving me a reason to celebrate the holiday.  I hope you all have a great weekend.  Bloggin B

Which way is up?

Often I find myself wishing I had more time to do the things I want.  I often get the nagging sense that I am just skimming by kind of like back in high school when you just hope you get that 50% to pass. Its not that I don't use my time wisely rather I don't always use it effectively.  I am a diver (??? ) not someone who goes into the pool step by step gradually getting use to the water.  Nope not me! I just plunge right in.  On occasion I don't look before I jump which isn't always a good thing.  Being adventurous or spontaneous is great but I keep learning that there needs to be some prep work and due diligence thrown in the equation.  Without a proper foundation a house will not stand the test of time.  That is why I am trying my best to build myself up slowly with quality products.  A blog is a product and so is my photography.  Actually in some ways I am a product or I am turning myself into a product, something which I market and try to sell.  My goal is independence which is ultimately what everyone wants.  I would like to be able to write full-time, attend social events, and do photo-shoots.  I should have gone into journalism but dragging my old hinny back to school isn't in the equation or budget (time or money wise).

I am in the process of switching the blog to a new site which is taking a little longer than planned simply because I am divided by time constraints. I have started to get into the habit of making lists (something I use to mock my grandfather and father for) of what I have to get done.  Its the only way I keep semi-organized.  But I don't always meet my personal deadlines I set which simply means I need more focus or I need to take less on my plate.  Which brings up the "NO" word.  Sometimes getting a head means saying "No" a lot.  I hate saying "no" I wish I could do everything that comes up but as my days fill up faster my "no's" become more frequent.

It's been a year since I began Bloggin Blodgett.  It's been a year since I became a semi-professional photographer.  I have much to learn in both regards.  But I am proud of what I have accomplished. (Inventory is important)  Did I get everything I set out to do done?  No.  But that won't stop me from continuing to move forward.  This "fiscal" year I have much planned.  Stay with me the journey and maybe we will have a little fun along the way.  Anyhow time to kill a chicken I'm hungry for some breakfast.   Picking the Brain Blodgett!

Tuesday is Monday

Today is my Monday as I took yesterday off to enjoy what was a beautiful weekend up in Tobermory.   I am looking forward to this coming weekend which is also a long weekend as we celebrate Civic Day which is historically tied to the abolishment of slavery.  Ironically all retail outlets are open but thats the topic of another post.

This weekend I look forward to some actual leisure time and I'm going to see the Dark Knight Rises again simply because I can.  Total Recall is coming up in a few days which I may see as well.

Looking forward to a short but busy week.  I am on day 23 of the Blodgett Slim Trim plan and look forward to breaking the 220 mark this week.   Lots of posts to come.  Have  a great Tuesday.

Old TTC ads

Here's an interesting article from the neighbourly blog : BlogTo .  They have dug up from the Toronto archives old TTC ads  dating back to the 40's.  Its actually kind of interesting to see the prices of some of the products being advertised.  Have a  look.

Age Verification for Twitter

Twitter is now offering age verfication checks for companies or users who offer age sensitive materials.  Geared towards alcohol sites and adult content users will be forced to enter their age in order to follow certain streams.  Details of how the new feature will operate can be found  here.

PS While you're at it check out  clickz.com .  I borrowed their image (fair use fair use .... my alibi)

All in a day's work

So the dawn of the first week of detox and getting back in shape will hit in a few hours.  Today I hit the benches at my buddy's place which he calls 'Caesar's Gym' so we'll roll with that.  I'm not a gym type person plus me and Caesar use to work out in our late teens back at 1290 Rathburn.  When I stopped years ago is when the lard began a packing so to speak.  I'm going to feel it in the morning I can tell already but no sweat as coach Caesar says "you're not working hard enough!"

Friday night I had a cigar while hanging out with the boys I figure honesty is the best policy when trying to make lifestyle changes.  But as for cigarettes it'll be a week tomorrow since I had one.  I was honestly tempted to have some drinks last night I even thought about sneaking one in on the bus ride over to my buddies but I resisted the lures of the mighty Crest.  I don't have a definitive plan on how long I'm going to withhold the smooze but I do know that I will have a beer and scotch one day (realism).

Tomorrow I plan on hitting up the Irie Festival. I had never heard of the event until late this morning.  It is mainly a music festival celebrating Reggae and Salsa but of course there are food vendors as well.  I was hoping to get over there today for some Jerk Chicken and food samples.  I'll be there tomorrow with my camera and phone so look out for the instagram  (blogginblodgett) updates.

I'm off to the land of pixie dust where I'm hoping they can spare me too much muscle tension in the morning.  Busy day coming up soon! Nocturnal Blodgett over and out.

Day Four

Last night was the first test for me as I met up with the boy DJ Vader for a long overdue session of garage talk.  I walked a good hour before meeting up so I managed to sneak in a little exercise in before chillaxing for the evening.  As usual there was a trip to the liquor store.  My friend needed to grab some medicine for the night so we ventured over.  It was kind of funny what happened next.  So we go there and he says to me "This time I need 3" which is kind of ironic because I'm usually the one who drinks 3 tall boys.  So afterwards he kind of looks at me surprised I'm not buying any.  "You have a stash in your backpack you scoundrel" he says laughing and we proceed to cash out.  Long story short we get back to the garage he pops his Crest and is shocked to discover I don't have any beers in my bag.  Usually I would.  So as per usual we discussed the latest developments in the music industry and hiphop beefs.

Today is day four not smoking and its also Thirsty Thursday but drought appears to be in the forecast.  I haven't had a serious craving for smokes yet but I know it will come.  Once I get through a month I will feel a little more confident.  Hope you all have a great day.

PS  I will be posting my entry on the Water Front Festivals sometime this evening (later than earlier ;-)

The day of reckoning

Not in the biblical sense but from a personal point of view.  This morning I touched on some areas in my personal life which need some finesse.  Along with getting habits in order comes checking that the mechanics are functioning properly.  So I will be blogging about this as well.  I am a little apprehensive as I do not like doctors and there are a few health items which may need addressing.   I will spare you any details at this point as they may just be minor issues.  Hoping to get everything straightened out shortly.  On a positive note I start my workout routine tonight. Cheers for now.

Updating the profile

Since the July 1st long weekend I have been on holidays, returning to reality yesterday.  I spent most of the time wandering the country side, trails and hills of Georgian Bay.  I had planned on venturing as far north as Tobermory to swim in Canada's rare cyrstal blue carribean colored water of sunken ships and scuba diver extraordinaire Little Tub Harbour.  Now adding Tobermory to the list of places to visit this summer.  The pictures from my vacay will be posted from my trip over at the  Flickr page  once I complete my post on attending the Mississauga and Toronto Water Front Festivals which are a little over due.

Also overdue is a health check something I've been mentally preparing for quite sometime.  I have a couple bad habits which admittingly I've been avoiding like the black plague.  I usually don't like to discuss projects or goals I'm working on because if you're unable to complete the task for what ever reason people tend to think you don't do what you say.  But in order to keep myself more accountable I am publicizing and blogging getting my health back in order.  Weighing in at 225 lbs about 70 pounds heavier than I when I started eating and drinking heavily.  Don't worry the food pics won't stop they'll just be more moderate and healthy (insert  tongue sticking out emoticon)

Second on the list is breathing.  I haven't had good lungs for a long while and what ever damage I've done smoking my life away I hope to be able to repair and cease further damage.

Mr Crest (one of my top 5 beers) will be seen a little less over the coming days.  See I'm watching a lot of my relatives and friends who are older than me go on all these weird special diets  in their  50's, 60's and 70's due to lactose intolerance, high cholesterol, bad blood pressure, gout etc... and they seem like they can no longer enjoy their favorate things in their retirement age years.  So instead on spending my later years doing the same I figure why not build up my health now and enjoy the things I've been abusing over the last ten plus years in my later yeara when I'm going to go senile anyhow.

So journey with me (bear with me) as I cringe, sweat and strive to get back in shape and continue to build up Bloggin B.

Early Bird

Ah the joys of waking up a couple hours ealier than the time set on the alarm clock.  Well at least I'm not the only one up.  On the rare occassions that I do arise before 8 the little hamsters are busying themselves away with their food hunting expeditions and running circles in their wheels.  If only life were so simple.  Thought this an oppurtune time to get some work done before the noise of the world kicks in as the sleeping giants will soon awaken from their slumber.

Coming up shortly are the posts (which are a little overdue) on my trips to the Mississauga and Toronto Water Festivals.  Have a great Tuesday.  Bloggin B

Interesting article on the History of Male Grooming

"Hair removal was so important to Ancient Egyptians that kings would have their barbers shave them with sanctified, jewel-encrusted razors. When a king died, he was often buried with a barber and his trusty razor, so he could continue to get his daily shaves in the afterlife. "

Ever wonder what it was like in ancient times grooming as a male?  Me neither. Here's an article for those of you who's curiosity is aroused.  Not suprisingly there was a often a religious or spiritual significance to some grooming habits.  The blog entry is on the longer side but is an interesting tad of history.  Read below:

Will return shortly

I know there hasn't been much activity here at Bloggin Blodgett.  The host yours truly has been walking with a limp getting his gangsta strut on.  I've been doped up on pain killers for the last few weeks and opted not to post too much as the drugs make me irritable and I like to keep Bloggin B kosher.  I will be posting on the regular shortly.  Thanks for your patience.

Study find Porn shuts down women's brains

Canoe presents an article focusing on a study done in the Netherlands and how watching porn has a particular effect on the part of the brain responsible for visual stimuli.  The study was conducted on women.  The contents of the linked article are interesting but not all that suprising.   Many studies have found that regular use of porn has negative effects on users whether this particular study comes to the same conclusion will be up for debate.
